If for any reason you have a warrant out for your arrest, then we would suggest turning yourself in, instead of waiting for the police to find you. This allows you to prepare yourself mentally and can prevent a serious and frightening encounter. It also keeps you out of the news, or at least it won’t be as visible. Also when you turn yourself in, law enforcement will usually look at you more favorably, and this could lead to reduced bail costs. If you do decide to turn yourself in, then we would suggest bringing a few people with you.

  1. Lawyer

If you plan on turning yourself in, you should immediately contact a lawyer. They will help determine what charges are out against you and determine what your bond will be. They may even be able to schedule a bond reduction hearing if the amount is excessive. They will also be able to advise you on what steps to take, and how to avoid doing anything that could be incriminating. The lawyer will then begin helping you with your case. If you don’t already have a lawyer, you can reach out to us and we have suggestions of people who should be able to help you.

  1. Bail Bondsman

The other person you should bring with you is a bail bondsman. It is much easier to arrange for a bail bondsman to bail you out while you are already out of jail, then when you are in it. You may not have many phone calls once you are in jail, and it is easier to bring someone who can deal with the bail with you. You can also fill out paperwork beforehand, which will help the entire process go quickly. The bail bondsman will be able to come to the jail and help get you back out as quickly as possible.

  1. Friend or family

No matter how much you prepare, turning yourself in can be scary and stressful. So bringing a family member or friend with you to support you can help tremendously. If you are able to get bailed out soon then they may be able to take you home as well.

No one ever wants to be in the situation where they would have to turn themselves in, but if you are, then these are the three people you should bring.
